Additional Testing

I had my first OB appointment today. After the pelvic exam the dr said that everything seems to be right on target with the dates I gave her and scheduled me for an ultrasound next week. She suggested that because I'm considered "advanced maternal age" that I should have the First Trimester Screen which is a combo of an u/s and blood test to check for chromosome abnormalities. I'm on the fence. While I was pregnant with my son they found a "bright spot" on his heart which is a marker for Down Syndrome. As a result they did bloodwork and my risk (3 years ago) was EXTREMELY low- lower than someone in their 20's. No matter the results I wouldn't abort... but if there IS something wrong I'd like to know so that I can prepare.

Has anyone else had these done?

Re: Additional Testing

Hi! I did the triple screen with my first, and the results were negative. I also would like to be prepared. But there is nothing that would ever make me decide to do an amnio or a cvs, so I'd never be 100% sure if there was a problem; just prepared for the possible. I will likely do the triple or quad screen and the NT scan again this time.

Re: Additional Testing

You might want to look into MaterniT21 it is a simple blood test that can be done as early as 10 weeks.

Ah yes, I've heard about that in my ddc! I will have to ask her about that when I go for the u/s Tuesday. Thanks for the reminder!!

We opted for the CVS test this time because we wanted to know if there were any problems.

My insurance wouldn't pay for the matuniti21 so we opt for the CVS test
