Expecting #4 at 37

I keep hearing that saying "advance maternal age" I don't feel advanced lol . Dh is 50 he is older but he acts younger than me.

I will be 7 weeks pregnant tomorrow.

April 9th appointment I am doing the Panorama Prenatal Test. Definitely not available 8 years ago during my last pregnancy.

My dr also wants me to do a Nuchal Scan.

All this has me oh so nervous. Tell me I have nothing to worry about.

I had baby #5 at age 40 and oh what a scary feeling it is when they tell you that because of you "advanced maternal age" that you have to have all these tests done and drive almost out of state because they don't do that kind of testing in your doctors office ( we live in Delaware and nothing is close)! Don't worry! They will sit you down and tell you all kinds of things it seems because they need you to know the statistics but I will sit here and tell you today that I was not in the odds to have a healthy baby but I have the most healthy baby boy and there were no problems with delivery and except for check ups has never been to the doctor. So relax!! and Enjoy! Keep in touch and let me know how things are going or if you want to know anything else just send me a message.

Congrats. And remember I'm pretty sure you can refuse testing if you want. I'm 43 and my testing came back fine. Good luck.

Congrats! I am also 37yrs old and pregnant with #4. I am 10 weeks. What is the Panorama Prenatal Test?? I saw the nurse at my OB's office 2 weeks ago and I don't recall her mentioning that. I know that I have to go to the Maternal and Fetal Medicine for a level 2 ultrasound @20 weeks for a NT scan and genetic counseling because I am AMA. This is my first pregnancy being AMA. I was told that they are going to watch my BP very closely, this time. I see my OB on Tuesday for my first appointment with her.

Congrats to everyone!! I'm 39, expecting #4. DH is 45. I have 3 boys from my first marriage (18, 16 and 13) but DH has no biological children. Because of an unsuccessful tubal reversal, we ended up having to go through IVF. We just found out that we are pregnant. We are 4 weeks along. I'm figuring the prenatal care will probably be a lot different than it was almost 14 years ago.

I was 38 when my last one was born and will be 40 when baby #6 makes his/her arrival :) They will want you to have a ton of extra tests (which you are free to decline if you like) but really that was about the only thing different from my pregnancies when i was younger

Congratulations to all the expecting mums. I was 30 when I gave birth to my first born and 34 to my youngest and now we are planning for the third one and only God knows what my age would be when that happens

Hello ladies. I am new to the board and I have 3 kids, 5, 3, and 11 months. with in the next few years I would like to try for #4. I am 33 and concerned about what people will say. Did any of you have this problem?

Re: Expecting #4 at 37

I had no issue with what people would say. And in my neck of the world, 33 is still very young. Most of my friends didn't even start having kids until them.

Re: Expecting #4 at 37

My2miracles I agree with 33 still being young but my issue is why do people think having more than 2 kids is a crime? My mother has 4 and my dad has 7! Me personally I like having a large family. I take care of all of my babies. I just recently started letting them stay at my mother's house. I always have my kids. And I feel like if I want to have 10 kids no one should have anything to say about that.

Arli O, people have an issue no matter what you do - that's my experience anyway. My friend who decided to only have 1 kids got a lot of grief - as much as my friend who had 5. You can never win! So do what's best for you!

Re: Expecting #4 at 37

Thank you My2miracles. That's the way I feel, too. Then they hit me with some new ones,"I would let Tristan get a little older", he will be a year old on the 12 of this month. Or it's "you're not going to be able to do anything you want to do because you'll be raising babies". Really!? This is the kicker, "Kindle don't want you to have another baby". Kindle(my 3 year old) will be just fine. She was ok when Tristan was born. We're not trying to get pg next month or next year but if we do I think we (the husband and I) should make that decision.

Re: Expecting #4 at 37

I agree that you mustn't concern yourself with what others say. The best thing to say is "I'm sorry you feel that way." Don't even waste your breath trying to defend your decisions. DH & I have gotten many rude comments over the years. Everyone wants to run your life for you.

I got comments because of my age and because of how many dc we had. I had my first baby at age 30. My fifth was born when I was 40 and it was my easiest pgcy! My dad actually chided me when I was pg at 42, saying "You're gonna keep on 'til you have a Down's Syndrome baby." That was a tough pill to swallow.

Keep your chin up! You have your husband and your children ;)

Re: Expecting #4 at 37

I'm new to this board. I recently turned 35 in jan. And we r trying to conceive baby #5. We have a 15, 14, 12 and 5 year old. All this reading about conceiving after 35 has me scared to death. I did develop a blood clot with baby #4 but I was put on lovenox and clot was disolved in 4 weeks and they still r not 100% sure it was a true clot, the specialist said possibly a swirling pool of blood where baby was compressing. Any how all my deliverys were early I was induced do to pre elcampsia from 34 weeks to 37 weeks never went a full term. We want to be blessed with another baby so badly all we can do is pray. But on the same hand I'm scared of the what if's .....I die in child birth I bleed to death? Anybody else ever feel this way?

Re: Expecting #4 at 37

Welcome Sarah. Pregnancy is scary no matter what age you are (IMO). I've been pregnant multiple times and have 3 kids. All of my pregnancies were scary because when I was 19 I lost a baby, then had my son at 21 (and had my last baby when I was 43). The 'what-ifs' are part of life in every aspect, but talk with your doctor and see what they think for you. Good luck.
