Claritin Reditabs and a back question

Hi everyone, I am new to these forums, and this is my very first pregnancy. I am four weeks pregnant with my first appointment set up for June 27th, but my allergies are really bad right now. I stopped taking my Claritin Reditabs the moment I found out I was expecting, but my allergies are getting so bad I can hardly sleep. Can I take Claritin Reditabs (the ones that dissolve in your mouth) or is there a safe alternative for an allergy pill?

Also, I have some moderate arthritis in my lower back along with a nerve problem, if it safe to use a heating pad on my lower back or is that a no no now that I am pregnant? Any alternatives to helping with the pain?

I actually have one more question about prenatal vitamins...has anyone tried the Fem Med pregnancy + ginger prenatal before? Right now I am taking Vitafusion gummies, but am concerned they may not be enough.

Anyway, thanks for checking out my questions, I look forward to being a member here and getting to know everyone :)

While from what I've read, there seems to be little issue with taking these during pregnancy, you really need to talk to your doctor and pharmacist about the safety of taking these pills during pregnancy. I don't think there are many of us here who can advise you on whether or not you should take them.

In the meantime, have you tried something like hydrasense or a neti pot to clean your sinuses? My hubby had bad allergies this time of year, and using a neti pot really helps him!

As for the heating pad, yes, you can use it. You wouldn't want to be placing it on your stomach, but you back should be fine.

With pre-natals, the most important thing is to make sure you're getting 400-800mcg of folic acid every day.

You may want to consider taking a quality Omega 3/DHA supplement too.

Thanks for your reply! I agree about waiting to talk to the doctor about the Claritin. I have never tried the neti-pot but I have heard good things about them from other people too, so I might give it a try. I pretty much have year round allergies since I moved to Texas, but some months are worse than others.

Good to know about the heating pad too! It really helps!

I am meeting with a nutritionist to form a meal plan as well as taking the prenatals, pretty much changing my entire life and eating/living habits overnight and I want to make sure I get it right lol.

Thanks again for the advice!
