I agree with Cortney that sometimes there ARE legitimate alternatives or personal reasons. There was a point in time that I considered the name "Emery" but would have spelled it "Emmarie"....I guess...

I like Blane a lot although I prefer it spelled Blaine. I like it bc it's very similar to my son's name, which is also why I can't use it. I can see how it can become more acceptably gender neutral...

Rooney is nmsaa but if I saw it on a list I would definitely think it was a male name. I haven't ever seen this name used, only as a last name.
