get your child to stop throwing things on the floor.

He'll be in his high chair and I ask if he's all done and he'll proceed to start giving me the cup, then quickly snags it back and throws it off the side of the chair.

It's frustrating.

How do you start teaching them that throwing things is wrong at this age?

I think just removing him from the high chair would work, for now. He's too young to understand if you explain in detail why he can't throw stuff.
I'm not sure though. I'm getting to this stage myself, so Ill be watching this post for more advice. lol

I would tell him no, and take away the things that he throws. If he throws his cup, then he can't have his cup on his tray anymore, you only give it to him when he wants a drink and then take it back. Or if he throws a toy, you take the toy away for the day, etc. I would still explain to him why we don't throw things, but at his age I think the consequence of something being taken away from him will drive the point home a lot easier.

Good luck!

I used both tactics that Christy and Mel used and they both worked well. At this age, I think it's all about cause and effect to see what happens when they throw the cup on the floor. Redirection worked really well for Marshall, but if I did have to take the toy or whatever it was away, then I would leave it in plain sight (he couldn't reach it, but could see it) to remind him every time he saw it about why it was there.
