Help interpreting new SA results??? edited: I AM FREAKING OUT

I mentioned that recently we went to the urologist in the area that specializes in fertility.
Well we did another SA (yet another! LOL) and I am kinda confused to be honest.
Help?

uhhhhh I am freaking out on the last part... Kruger Strict Morphology 2.5 %

My husband just had an SA and his morphology was 2% too. All of his other counts were normal so I will be tagging along to see what the women on this board have to say.

Did your DH do the Kruger Strict Morphology?
Our other SA showed varying normal-ish % rates but it wasn't the Kruger Strict Morphology which I guess is way more accurate?

From what i am reading not only IVF may be our only option, but ICSI.

I can't see your pic.....what is motility, how many mL did he have and how many swimmers per mL?

normal range is 7%. but sa's have to be taken w a grain of salt...it could be his worst deposit or best...and you will never know. Our dr said it can change weekly. You got pg before! That says a lot.

Ditto what Leah said.

It's a big picture thing. According to my last RE our only option is IVF with ICSI but I'm praying the clomid worked for his sperm and in June when he gets home we can go from there. What is the urologist recommending? What did he say about the results??

our last SA was way worse and I've gotten pregnant. you really have to take it with a grain of salt. I'd see what the urologist recommends and just go from there.

Re: Help interrupting new SA results??? edited: I AM FREAKING OUT

The RE here used the Krueger Strict, yes. I read anything below 4% is less than ideal. I'm just unsure whether my husband should go ahead and make a consult with the urologist or do another SA to make sure that the first one wasn't just way off?

I am feeling really stupid.
I don’t really understand the numbers but I think it says:
Volume: 4.5ml
Density: 157
Motility initial: 51%
1 hr: 24%
Total motile sperm 360mil

2.5% normal forms
3-5 immature forms per HPF

Re: Help interrupting new SA results??? edited: I AM FREAKING OUT

They called and booked an apt for Monday but I asked them to send the results today. Bad idea maybe?

I am stressing because if it is that bad, then I don't want to spend the money or the emotional effort on an IUI. My scan of course is Saturday and my IUI is for the same time they booked the urology appointment on Monday :(
DH is thinking we should not do the IUI and cancel but I am afraid maybe I am reading it wrong? And we are jumping the gun?
Does it help that Dh had 360mil total motile? Does that change things as far as it being different if he had say 40mil?

Dh is going to call the UR tomorrow and ask if we should cancel but I am arid since it's Friday he may not get back to us or worse yet, be out of the office.

I'd say go ahead with the IUI, because it's worked in the past for you guys, plus after this cycle, you'll know whether to continue or not. I'd hate for you to go all the way through this cycle and waste it completely, KWIM?

Ya I am so bloated from the Femara it upsets me to have taken it for nothing.
Thank you Jen. I'm going to talk to DH and see what he thinks.

Re: Help interpreting new SA results??? edited: I AM FREAKING OUT

I'd go ahead with the IUI...HOLY SHEEP! 360 million!!! That is fantastic and really does change the % of healthy spermies.

Let's say that that 2.5% (and in reality, 14% is the high...I'm probably calculating this wrong, but I cannot find, after 30 mins of googling, any other way to figure this out!!) - so 2.5% of 360million is still 9 million awesome spermies that are perfect....and that is nothing to sneeze at and I think you have a great chance at IUI.

I have a friend whose hubby had 1 million sperm, and that wasn't the GOOD sperm...that was just the total sperm! and they got pg with their IUI :)

Give this IUI a chance...you can always move on if this isn't moving fast enough for you. I, too, want to know what the urologist says....

And just to make you laugh...did you realize you put "Interrupting" instead of "Interpreting" in your subject line :) HEHE :)

I know I saw that LOL! I edited it!!! love my use of auto correct! I once did rectal instead of rental...

I am hoping you are right about the total making a difference... I was hoping along the same lines. Then I wonder if that number is even right. Seems really high. I dunno.
I am really interested in what the UR has to say.
DH and I had a long talk about IVF today. Not that we haven't talked a lot about it but it was more serious this time.

I'm praying that you don't need to get to that route honey :bighug:

I wish I could give you some advice but I don't understand all those numbers either. Personally I would still do the IUI but understand if you wanted to wait. Hopefully you get some info soon!

I wouldn't wait this cycle out either, because it's worked for you before. Good luck honey!!

Re: Help interpreting new SA results??? edited: I AM FREAKING OUT

I don't think that looks that bad. I really don't. 2.5% Morphology isn't great but his count is fine. Now - keep this in mind. SA will change from day to day and so will the results depending on who is doing it. Each lab is different and each person doing the SA is different.

The girl at my office just went to a conference on Strict Morphology and they told all of them that they are grading too STRICT. They needed to knock it off because like half of the men in the world are showing up with 2% morphology.
Mine went from 2% (2 SA) at one clinic to 7% (one SA) at my current clinic. Now there supposedly isn't much you can do to fix morphology but my DH was on fertility blend from GNC for one year and his went for 2% to 7%. Now was that the meds or the lab or what? Who knows?

Now with IVF - the only two embies that made it where ICSI. The three eggs that they let fertilize naturally didn't make it. Only one out of 3 even fertilized and then didn't make it past a 8 cell embie.

IUI - I wouldn't cancel it. Remember - you can't miss a cycle of trying! IUI can still be successful and it does raise your percentage of getting pregnant for the month a little more then just TI.

We never had a full SA done so unfortunately i'm no help interpreting...but def. don't freak out, the overall count is great and let's see what your RE thinks of the results on Monday (((HUGS)))

Re: Help interpreting new SA results??? edited: I AM FREAKING OUT

I ditto what *jenjen* said. In similar results my RE also advised IUI. Also it seems you have great forward progression. I'd say you have a great chance with IUI! And, if you decide ivf in future, they process sperm like they do for IUI- so the "team A sperm" would be the ones with access to egg. ICSI is not the ONLY option. It's one of many.

Good luck. fx for you this cycle. Kup with your appt details.
