Thinking about trying progesterone. Any advice, success stories, warnings?

Here I am again ladies :(

We're going into cycle 6 and although I know that we haven't been trying too long, Im having some issues that I read may be due to low progesterone. I know the Dr can test my levels but she wont order any tests because we haven't reached that 12 month mark when they are finally willing to discuss fertility issues. Ive read that spotting before and after AF can be fairly normal, however I have spotting for 4-10 days before my AF every time. I have read that this could be a sign or low progesterone. I know some of the ladies on here have used progesterone creams and it worked for some of them in reducing the spotting and getting BFPs.

Can anyone tell me more information about using these progesterone creams??

Heres more about me:)

Im 34
I have lots of eggs and healthy ovaries according to a recent ultrasound (1yr ago).
I have an almost clockwork regular cycle that is 34 days long.
I spot anywhere from 4-10 days leading up to AF and then usually have a normal AF for 3-5 days.
I just started using OPKs last cycle and found that I was O'ing a few days after my FF calendar said I was (which may be why we're on cycle 6 Oops!)
I walk about 24-26 miles per week for exercise.
I have never smoked or done any drugs ever and I have a drink once or twice a year.
I have no known health conditions.

I have no suggestions for any creams but it does sound like u r a good candidate for it. I'm on supplements that I take after ovulation. I know there r plenty of women on here who have had success with the cream. Gl

Before you do anything, I would start charting BBT. If your BBT remains well above the coverline throughout the LP, then it's probably not a progesterone issue but something else. I had a similar problem with spotting, and gave some OTC progesterone cream a shot. It did NOTHING. I actually had more spotting that month. I think it's one of those things where the OTC stuff isn't strong enough and you need a prescription. I've been using red raspberry leaf to strengthen my uterus and it has eliminated my spotting. It may do nothing for you, but it may be worth a try. The other reason why you would need to chart before starting a progesterone cream is if you start the cream to early you may trick your body into thinking it ovulated, causing you to miss your chance that month.

I would suggest charting your temps for a few cycles as well. If you don't really have a progesterone problem, you could end up causing more trouble in the long run.

The creams really do have a low level in them, and are not often that helpful. I did try them before, I do have progesterone issues, and it was better to go with my doc and ended up needing stronger meds anyway.

Can you talk with another doctor about running tests?

Good luck.

I haven't tried temping yet. I'll go get a BBT thermometer and try that first for a few more cycles. Who knows, maybe next month will be my month. Thanks for the suggestions

Charting is definitely a good place to start! If you're spotting that much though, I'd be concerned about a progesterone issue too. I've tried the cream and didn't have any luck with it and have to take an oral prescription. It can work for some ladies though, so hopefully somebody else can help you out with that one

Personally, I'd be looking for a different doctor though. A progesterone test is easy. It's a blood draw at 7DPO, that's it! Come to think of it, if you went in to your doctor at 7DPO and said you got a +HPT and had some spotting, they'd probably do a blood draw to check your progesterone. I'm just saying is all...
