Post Liver Transplant w/ trying to conceive

First off let me start by saying that im new to this site. I'm 21 years old. Have a wonderful and very supporting boyfriend. I'm very unique of a girl with many medical problems. My periods have always been very irregular since I started my period when I was 17. I've been on many kinds of birthcontrol since then and have only had good success with one but now I'm not taking it because of medical problems and since then I started a new 1 but this 1 really makes my cycles all messed up then what they already are and were giving me horrible and painful periods so since then I've stopped taking my birthcontrol. which was now 2 months ago.
Im not trying to get pregnant but if it happens then I am more than happy with it. Honestly I feel that as I can not get pregnant because I have piles of medical problems which the main 1 s being liver transplant 1996, hpv, and now a cyst on my overy. Im a very skinny girl and have been with other men unproteded. When and if I do et pregnant I also feel that it will take a huge tole on my body and going to the doctors many times of the months. I wonder if anyone out their has had successful transplants along with pregnancys.

Welcome!

I don't have any experience with transplants, but I think your doctor would probably know your history best and be able to give you a good idea of the risks and precautions you would have to take once you do get pregnant. Once you do decide to TTC, definitely see an OBGYN for a pre-conception appointment so that they can see what's going on with your cycles beforehand and make it easier to figure out any issues yoy might have.

Good luck!

Going to do all this in a few weeks! Being a mother is the only thing I want in life!

I also feel that with my medical problem I would miss understand the true feelings of newly becoming pregnant and think of it as I'm getting sick or something. needing to take a medication that isnt good for a pregnant lady meaning i need to find out ASAP! I also can't ask my mother what her pregnancy was like because I dont talk to her and my father doesn't remember. I pay very close attention to my body and take honestly 1 pregnancy test a week(the dollar store ones) just to make make sure.
I'm hoping in the next 2 years I will be able to concive 1 child:)

Welcome!

I do have some experience with transplantation surgery and the management afterwards (mainly kidneys, but livers a LONG time ago!). I would certainly recommend you chat to your transplant hepatologist or transplant surgeon prior to TTC as pregnancy in any solid organ transplant patient is considered high-risk (to yourself, the baby and the transplant organ).

Ideally, your pregnancy and TTC journey should be mananged in a specialist centre, with the delivery being done in a hospital with transplant surgeons available. It certainly is possible to become pregnant and have a healthy baby once transplanted, but there are significant considerations to the type and level of immunosuppression medication, as well as the potential complications that may occur.

I would speak to your doctor about TTC and then once all your meds are sorted, hopefully you won't have a problem

Good luck and KUP

You need to find a high-risk OB. I have some experience in this, not liver but other organs.

You may want to wait until your periods are regular. Since you are so many years out and your organ has not been rejected you are probably ok. Are your levels still ok?

Also, your OB may want to do a fertility workup. Just for peace of mind. They did that on me, but I was not as many years post op as you are.

Good Luck.

thank you ever one for your support. ive been going to a obgyn near my house they are all super sweet lady's but im going to a new obgyn that my transplant doctor refurred me too though University Of Michigan hospital because that is where ALL my medical records are at(where i got my transplant at) I feel safer going to them and they have the best high-risk care. I also signed a paper so uofm could get my medical records from the place ive been going too.
lelila my levels have been perfect the past 5 years! I'm taking Cellcept 750x2day Prograf 1.5x2day. I'm 15 years in and havent had any problems with the liver it's self since the transplant.
My appointment is the 16th and it couldnt come any faster! because i have so many questions with pregnancy on me and with the cyst on my overy. keep everyone updated!

Hello & Welcome! I do not have any experiance with this, but I'm sure if you speak with your dr about wanting to ttc, you guys can come up with some sort of plan. That's great that you are taking tests just in case.
