OPK Timing

Help a newbie :)
I have no idea when I ovulate (though I'm pretty sure I do) as this is the first time I'll be using OPK's and my first cycle of temping. My cycle is typically 27/28 days long. When do you think I should start using OPK's, just so I catch it? I do have a ton of them (I got on the 'net) so I'm not really concerned about "wasting" any or using too many. You think CD 10 is a good time, or so?

I would say CD 10. Even if you're regular, I think by testing that early you're minimizing the risk of not catching it.

Good luck!

Do you temp? It'd be better if you combine opks with temps.

I've got the same average cycle length and started on day 8. I started with OPKs this month and was going to test once a day after work, and then twice when I started seeing the lines get darker. But I only kept doing it once/day and I think I missed the surge. :frown: So if you have plenty to play with, I'd definitely recommend 2x/day when you think you may be getting close! GL!!

With a shorter cycle I would the 1st month start testing on CD8/9. After you have an idea of when you ovulate monthly start testing on CD10. I saw an average cycle of 31 days and I've had months where I ovulate cd12 to the 15.

GL and Welcome to JM. Hopefully your TTC journey is short and sweet!

Yes, I just started this cycle. But I know you can't use just temps because your crosshairs don't come until after the fact? (3 days of high temps, right?) so temping won't tell me much until after it's too late. BUt yeah, I'm doing both!

Thanks girls. I may start at CD8 just this cycle to be sure.

I agree about CD10. You could start on CD8 just in case and if you're not worried about using up tests too quickly, then why not!I'm a late Oer, but I normally have 29-31 day cycles.

I agree with whoever said to start earlier until you know when you typically ovulate. My friend and I were both early Oers.
