Octuplets Born in California!

The world’s second set of Octuplets have been born in California Monday, January 26th. The Associated Press reports that the mother, unidentified at this point, gave birth to six baby girls and two boys at a Kaiser Permanante hospital in Southern California. Investigators Search for Missing Florida Girl

Haleigh Cummings, a five year old girl from Florida, has been missing since early Tuesday morning.  CNN reports that she was likely abducted from her home. According to CNN affiliate WJXT-TV, the girlfriend of Cumming’s dad, Misty Croslin, called 911 at 3 a.m. on Tuesday to report the child missing.  She was watching Haleigh and her 4-year-old brother on Monday evening.   » Read more

Newborn Screenings Now Mandatory in U.S.

Across the country, it is now mandatory that newborns are screened a total of 29 disorders, including metabolic, genetic and hormonal disorders and specific conditions like congenital hypothyroidism and phenylketonuria. According to a recent HealthDay report, it was just four years ago that only one in three newborns were  screened for the various disorders, some of which can lead to serious complications and even death if not detected and treated. » Read more

Child Prostitutes Rescued in FBI Sweep

As part of their massive effort to rescue children caught up in the human trafficking, sex-trade business, the FBI arrested 571 suspects and rescued 48 suspected teen prostitutes across the country over the weekend. The FBI’s new initiative, Operation Cross Country, is looking to implement stiffer penalties for those working in the illegal sex trade business and has also gotten involved due to the amounts of underage children that become unwilling participants and victims. » Read more
