I recently purchased some pretzels for a snack for the kids and myself. I was thinking about how I love chocolate covered pretzel rods. In fact, we even made some ourselves this past Christmas. This gave me the idea to make some pretzel bark. It is super simple to make and the kids just love helping out.
You will need:
- White chocolate chips or candy melts
That’s it! I decided to use both white chocolate chips and red candy melts since we love pink in this house. But you can just keep it white if you want something more traditional. I have a bunch of holiday sprinkles that I purchased on clearance so you know I was going to use them. Who cares that it’s July?
I lined a shallow pan with foil. You will want to use something with the width of a cookie sheet.
Place some pretzel pieces in a zip loc bag and seal. Now comes my kids favorite part -other than the eating- smashing the pretzels.
They should look like this after your kids are done taking out their frustrations.
I mixed some candy melts with the white chocolate chips and popped it in the microwave for a minute or two. You will want to check this a few times and when it is able to stirred and looks melted, it’s ready. Don’t worry if there a few unmelted chips. The simple act of stirring will help them to dissolve.
Now simply pour it into your tray. I did not want to make a ton of pretzel bark because I knew I would end up eating it. I only made enough to fill up half a tray. If you have more self control than I do, then make a whole tray.
The kids took turns sprinkling pretzel bits on the melted chips. Then they pressed them down into the mixture.
Little C was more interested in eating the pretzels.
That doesn’t look very exciting does it?
But look at it after the addition of the sprinkles! I am convinced that sprinkles make everything better.
Pop it in the refrigerator for 20 minutes and remove. The barks slides easily off the foil.
Simply break it up into bite size chunks and you are ready for some sweet and salty yumminess.
Even the pickiest eaters will love it.
