I have a simple craft just for you mommies today. Time to spruce up your front door with a Valentine decoration. We learned how to make this easy fabric wreath last week in MOPS and I could not wait to share it with you all.
You will need:
- Wire hanger
- 60 pieces of red, pink and white fabric cut in 7 inch by 1 inch strips
- 24 inch piece of coordinating grosgrain ribbon (for hanging)
- Wire cutters
- Tape
- Zigzag scissors for cutting the fabric (optional)
At MOPS, they gave us a wire heart form that was purchased at a floral shop. I found you can easily make this wreath using an ordinary wire hanger that your probably have hanging in your closet. Take a wire hanger apart and make it as straight as possible. For the fabric wreath I made, I used roughly 26 inches of wire hanger. Cut out a length of 26 inches of hanger and bend it into the shape of a heart. Twist the two inside ends together and place some tape on the ends to secure them.
If you want to give your wreath a little extra pizazz use some zigzag scissors to cut your 7×1 strips from your fabric. Make sure to use a variety of fabrics so your wreath has a number of colors and designs. If you are familiar with quilting, you can buy fat quarters pretty inexpensively to make this Valentine decoration. Some of you sewers and crafters may just have these scraps in your supplies.
Fold one of the fabric strips in half and put in over the wire heart with the closed loop side facing outward.
Stick your finger in the loop to open it up.
Pull the two pieces on the back part of the strip through the loop.
Make sure to pull it tight.
Now just do that a million more times. Okay, not that much! I used about 60 strips on this size heart, so just 60 times. You can add more fabric strips if you want a very tight wreath.
Here’s how it looks when it’s all done.
Take your length of grosgrain ribbon and tie it on the pointy part of the heart where you put the tape.
Tie the ends of the ribbon to form a loop.
Hang your new Valentine decoration and enjoy!
