Meet Spark

It’s a terrible picture taken through the smudged side of the hospital bassinet — but here is our newest addition. We are home and doing well — definitely adjusting to our new family of four.

In See Teacher Run Land, she will forever be known as Spark Taco(I don’t need any students finding this blog!), but I thought I would take this one time to answer some FAQ’s about her name.

How the Heck Do You Say It?
It is pronounced My-elle. Four years ago, B and I were watching the winter Olympics when we fell in love with the name of a Canadian Snowboarder. The pronunciation does not really match the spelling — but, well, we loved it and didn’t like the “look” of the phonetic spelling. And if you haven’t noticed, we kinda like to do things our own way 🙂

What is Up with the Middle Name?
B’s grandfather holds a special place in our hearts. He was the good-natured, devoted, patient, and loving patriarch of the family. He always had a good story to tell and forever put his family first. He passed away in 2003, and when we decided to have kids we knew that we wanted to include him in our naming. His nickname was Red and we couldn’t think of a better way to honor him. I like to think that he is leaning on the middle gate on the East Side of Heaven giggling at our use of his nickname.

This pregnancy and birth ended up being E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. that I wanted and, I’ll say it, needed it to be. I will update with all the details soon, but right now I need to go admire my rolly polly baby and appreciate that both my kids are sleeping. At the same time.
