i got recommendations for a midwife from my tribal area over at, and also from a local yahoo parenting group.

i paid $1816.52, tax included. this covers all my prenatals, labwork (but not u/s), my birthkit, and a land birth, or a waterbirth with my pool. renting her pool for a waterbirth is another $100.

i think my midwife fills out the paperwork for a birth certificate and i file it with vital statistics. i know i asked, but i can't remember now.

no, you don't have to go to a hospital to get checked afterwards.
