I remember in an ethics class we had a discussion on shared morals and personal morals. Shared morals, for Americans anyhow, would be murder is wrong, rape is wrong, etc. Its something the majority of us agree with so much we hold it as either actual or unwritten law. Personal morals are just what they sound like- something many people may share but many may not. Such as views on the meaning of the Bible/Torah/Koran (sorry if I spelled that wrong), or breastfeeding vs. formula, etc.

To me, I personally could never have an abortion. If through IVF I was pregnant with a bunch of babies, I could not selectively reduce. I don't, for the most part, agree with abortion, except with rape, incest (which usually is rape), and life threatening conditions. But I do not believe the law should force my personal belief on anyone, because to me it is apparent it is not a shared moral.
