My middle son had an endoscopy when he was 10 months old. The hardest part was the denial of food in the morning, but they do the little kids first thing in the am. He was given a relaxant, I didn't ask what kind of medication, and I took him back to the OR and stayed with him while they put him under anesthesia. Once he was asleep I left and the nurse took me back to the room. I don't recall how long it took but it was not too long. Afterward he was cranky and hungry. He was still connected to iv fluids. They let him have a bottle of pedialyte first. Once he sucked that down and he was still crying and obviously hungry then they let him have a bottle of formula. The worst part was that he still didn't have too much control over himself and was flopping all over the place and cranky and crying and just didn't know what was going on. Once we were discharged and he slept off the anesthesia there were no other issues. Good Luck.
