I consulted the world's leading expert on mood stabilizers during pregnancy (Jennifer Payne at John's Hopkins) and she okayed me for treatment with all SSRIS and several other mood stabilizers. Recent research has indicated that there are no known birth defects associated with SSRIs. However, a recent group of studies has indicated that there is a serious risk for PTL in women whose mood disorders are left untreated. Given this information, and the information given to you by your doctors, I would stay on the drugs as long as they are needed. I can only speak for myself, but I know I would be devastated if I stopped my meds and then lost the baby because of PTL. I consulted 6 different specialists before getting pregnant with Ethan, and every single one (even the high risk perinatalogists) warned me against discontinuing my meds.

Thank you Vicki for my awesome siggy!!
