First of all, for the temps you can two options. You can skip temping altogether and go with a mucus only method (they are listed in the Resource Sticky). Or just do your best to temp as close to the same time every morning and you should still see a pattern when ovulation finally occurs.

The post partum return of fertility can be a little challenging, in that your body might gear up to ovulate multiple times before you actually go through with it. That is likely what was happening each time you've noticed episodes of cervical mucus and a high,soft,open cervix. It's possible to ovulate before you get your first AF and the chance of that also rises now that you're past the 6 month mark too.
