Question for Mommies 01/17
When do you plan on introducing whole milk to baby?

I have not decided yet. I think with Jackson we introduced it around 12 months. We started mixing breastmilk with whole milk to get him use to drinking whole milk. I think by around 14 months he was completely on whole milk because I weaned around that time.

Huh, I hadn't even thought about it yet.

A year. I've read a lot about how introducing it too early can cause lactose intolerance later in life because your body develops almost like antibodies against it until he knows how to digest. In turn, that causes lactose intolerance. So we will wait.

Re: Question for Mommies 01/17
I also have no idea if that is true, but DH is lactose intolerant and I just don't want to risk it. I give water or a little water juice if I'm giving a drink other than breastmilk. Grady had it at a year and he loved milk.

Re: Question for Mommies 01/17
Is it just for milk, or things that would possibly contain dairy, that we should wait until 12 mo? Just wondering because I had thought about pureeing the same meal we are eating for Rylynn, but I cook with sour cream a lot, and I mean A LOT! I love it. So, since sour cream clearly contains dairy, should I not do that?

Re: Question for Mommies 01/17
It's up to you. In small amounts, I doubt it would hurt. I don't know that for sure, but I know some things are digested differently. Like yogurt is safe at 6 months because it isn't digested like milk

at one. I hope she likes it. DS loves it, so it made weaning easy.

I didn't mean to hijack this post :) but in regards to my above question, I called our peds office and they said it should be fine, just not to replace breast milk/formula with whole milk until after a year.

But to answer the original question: I'm not sure when I'll give it to her. I really hadn't thought about it. I guess after she is 1 we will do a trial and error session!

Re: Question for Mommies 01/17
I'm going to start pumping and giving him breastmilk in a cup around 11 months. Just to get him used to it. Then at one, start mixing it with milk. Probably have him completely weaned by 13-14 months like you Melissa.

Re: Question for Mommies 01/17
We just discussed this on the FB page. Jax will go on almond or rice milk around 12 months, but not before. I am not a big milk giver and his dad has serious milk issues anyhow. Jax is FF, and I don't give formula past a year, but if I still have some left I will finish it out.

Re: Question for Mommies 01/17
Archer is on Enfamil Nutramegin. Any regular milk based formula makes him projectile vomit. I doubt I will do whole milk at all. I will either conitinue his formula after a year or do rice or almond milk. Slater had a problem with regular milk too. He was on nutramegin. Cows milk made him so constipated he got blockages. So regular milk is not going to happen here.

We'll introduce whole milk at a year during meals but he will still BF as long as he wants during the day and at night.
