Anyone else still taking an antidepressant?
I'm wondering how safe they really are this early. The one I'm taking is for pain (fibromyalgia) so I could stop if I need to. The dr. just said they generally believe they're safe, which wasn't very reassuring.

Re: antidepressants?
Yep, Zoloft for me too (see Here We Go.. andthat will explain the need for antidepressants!!)

My doctor was extremely encouraging with me continuing to take my medication, relieving any concerns of effects on the babe. Good Luck!

Popping in from the March DDC:

I'd ask the doctor or look it up online and find the category of the drug. C is risky so you have to evaluate your personal situation and D is a definite no go. B is generally low risk and good to go.

drugs.com is generally accurate but Medline Plus is ran by the US National Library of Medicine which is overseen by the National Institutes of Health if that makes you feel more secure. MedlinePlus: Drugs, Herbs and Supplements: MedlinePlus

You're always entitled to a second opinion too. A pain specialist might be able to help you research other ways to manage pain until you deliver.

I take Wellbutrin. I have taken it during several of my pregnancies.

Re: antidepressants?
I am on Lexapro. They want to switch me to cymbalta for fibromyalgia. But I am trying to hold on as long as I can. I don't really have an option NOT to be on something.. it sucks, but I have to hope for the best. I won't make it without the medication.

Popping in from the April DDC...

I am on Zoloft, actually started it when I was 6 weeks along. Started at 25mgs, went up to 50mgs about 3 weeks ago ... and I feel that if I wasn't taking it I would go insane! My anxiety was mild before getting pregnant, and I used to take an occasional Xanax and just deal with it. Then when I got pregnant everything spiraled out of control & depression kicked in! Anyways, long story short, my doc encouraged me to get on the Zoloft sooner than later and that the risks were very very low at the dose that I'm on. I had my NT scan a few weeks back and everything was perfect ... so I'm feeling a lot better than my baby is doing well, and I'm doing well mentally.

Can't be a good mommy if you can't take care of yourself :-)

Don't pay attention to those stupid lawsuit commercials out there either ... the main drug that they go after is Paxil as that is known to cause heart defects in newborns.

Also, I believe Cymbalta is used for Fibro - and I know someone who is pregnant and taking that for chronic migranes, her doc is perfectly fine with her taking it.

Well, at least I feel better that I won't be the only one. I have been dealing with a lot of Fibro/Multiple Sclerosis pain.. and my doc seems to think it is the best option available while pregnant so I will probably be on it after my next appt on Nov. 16th :) Hoping it helps too.. this pregnancy has been pretty miserable so far for pain!

My midwife prescribed Zoloft for me at 36 weeks in my last pregnancy to help prevent PPD. I plan on doing that again this time. I have a history of depression anyway, and my PPD was pretty bad after my oldest was born.

Re: antidepressants?
I take Ativan for occasional panic attacks. Obviously it's something I can't take anymore. But I wonder if all the studies done that show negative effects on a fetus are from women who take it regularly, which I don't. I probably only took it 2-4 times a month. I plan on talking to the midwife about it, maybe I'll still be able to take it for those very occasional panic attacks. Cognitive behavioral therapy really helped me with the every day anxiety, not completely, but enough that I can deal with it most of the time.
