Parent/Child Classes
Is anyone doing anything like this? Formally or informally? Planning/hoping to? Done it with an older LO?

Right now I take J to an early intervention class for babies once a week. It's about an hour and 15 minutes long, and we do the same thing every week. I mean, exactly the same thing, in the same order. But about the time I started to get really bored, I noticed that J seemed to be recognizing the pattern and was responding to it. Turns out, the repetition was for him, not for me! I learn some exercises to do with him each week and talk to other caretakers (moms, grandmoms, babysitters) and the OTs who run the class. He gets a chance to play on the floor with other babies.

I'm trying out a Kindermusik class on Friday, and I've looked into parent/child swimming classes. I work four days a week (plus whenever he's sleeping), but he stays at home with a sitter, so I want an activity we can do together once a week where he sees other kids and I have a chance to meet other parents.

I have tried a few times to get together informally with other friends who have babies, but they live at least an hour away, so it doesn't always work out. Hopefully this summer we can start meeting half way for a walk together or something like that.

Re: Parent/Child Classes
We are likely going to be doing some classes later this year as well. Music Together is one that I love...my brother/SIL have been doing MT with their 18 month old since she was 3 months. They love it. We are also going to do a swimming class or swim n gym type thing. Maybe Gymboree too.

I would love to! Guess I'll have to do some research and see what the centers on base offer.

I want to do something like this too! I think it would be fun to have Kingston around other babies his age and it would be fun to meet other Moms too!

Re: Parent/Child Classes
I would LOVE to do some mommy and me classes - especially some exercise ones. Unfortuantely all the ones that i've found in my area aren't working mom friendly and usually occur during business hours. We will be doing swim lessons in the fall though.

Re: Parent/Child Classes
All that stuff around here is definitely geared to SAHMs, they are never at a time I can make it. Which is weird to me, there are sooo many 2 income households in our town. I don't get it. I need to find some weekend stuff that's not during naptime...

Re: Parent/Child Classes
I agree with you, most of the options I've found don't fit with a M-F 9-5 (or, let's be real, 8-6) work schedule. The only thing I've seen on the weekends are Saturday morning swim classes, and those fill up lightening fast! I hope you guys can find something that works with your schedules.

I was reading somewhere (probably a link from a popular blog or something) about a baby book club that met earlier in the morning so that it didn't cut into the entire day for a working schedule. We're up early enough that a 7 am class would work surprisingly well for us, but I guess that's not a very popular option.

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 04:22 PM.
