Madeleine is exclusively breastfed and is constipated right now. Is that normalshe has not had a bowel movement in a couple of days and passing really stinky gas. Is there anything that I can do to help her?

Re: poop
I've been told that they can go up to 10 days without a bowel movement. Have you tried the bicycle movement with her legs. I've heard of using a rectal thermometer but i've never personally done it. I know they sell infant suppositories. I hope she goes soon for you.

Re: poop
The rectal thermometer works!! Make sure to have a towel and diaper under her bum cause seriously it can be like unpopping a cork. Had to do this with my DD once and oh my heck it took a few seconds then poo just came flying out.

Re: poop
yep sounds normal! just started experiencing this with hailey..she was going a few times a day then all of a sudden nothing for a few days (ebf too). but she never seemed upset or in pain. anyways, i tried gently massaging her belly and did the rectal thermometer and within an hour or so she had a huge bm. dr. said they can go up to a week sometimes and that's totally fine :)

Re: poop
Yeah, totally normal. Arthur goes 5-6 days between poops, regularly. I just let him go when he goes, since he's not uncomfortable. The doctor and the lactation consultant said up to 10 days between bms are totally normal. The lactation consultant said that she's heard of an ebf baby going 22 days without a bm. She explained that ebf babies are more efficient and use up almost all the nutrients in breastmilk, so they can go longer between poops since they use everything up :)

Re: poop
As long as the consistency isn't hard, she's ok. My first son never missed a day and I EBF him too. But once Conrad turned 7 weeks old, he went 8 days without a poop and I was freaking out. The consistency is always the same. 8 days was the longest so far for him, but it's usually like 5 or 6 days between poops now. Be thankful you're not cleaning it every day! :)
