We live in Maryland. The average c-section rate for the state was 32.2% in 2009. It increased from it's low of 20.2% in 1991.

The hospital where I am delivering has a c-section rate of 22.5%. The local hospital (the one I am delivering at is an hour away, we chose not to deliver at the one 5 minutes away) has a rate of 34.3%!! (I knew I made a good choice!!)

The lowest rate in the state is 21.2% at a mid-state local hospital. The highest rate is 44.8% at The Greater Baltimore Medical Center. John's Hopkins (I am including it because it is a big-name hospital) has a rate of 30.9%. And strangely, is not terribly far from The Great Baltimore Medical Center. They serve much of the same clientele.

Things that make you go hmmmmm....
