If you eat less carbs than recommended I would defintiely test for ketones. If you don't eat enough carbs the body may produce sugar from protein and fat which somehow also releases ketones and they are not good for your baby. Go and ask your GD for ketone test strips (or buy them yourself, they are not terribly expensive).
I have to eat just what you should to keep the ketones away - and it's more than I eat while not pregnant.
(Try brown rice?)
