There has been no known research that says this. It's just speculation. I have NEVER seen a water baby with respiratory problems. I have seen LOTS AND LOTS of land babies who are overly suctioned wind up with respiratory problems though. I noticed this one day at work, then went to see the research behind it, and it looks like research is beginning to point towards a more conservative use of suctioning.
