Fees vary so much from state to state. I think the amount she is charging is quite average.

In our minds the birth is the big event, but it's important to consider all the hours spent in prenatal visits prior to the birth, as well the extensive time after the birth. Those hours make up the bulk of your care, and deserve to be compensated, imo. They are charging so little to begin with....

Did you by chance ask her how many times she has missed a birth? Except for in the case of extremely fast labors where it's just impossible for the midwives to make it in time, missing a birth is quite rare.
