I don't think that if you use a crib you aren't being ap. You need to do whatever works for your family. I co-slept with both of mine until 8 months. Around then they became so wiggly and nobody was getting any sleep so it wasn't good for anybody. We moved them to cribs and they have slept better. Not that they sleep perfect now but they sleep better. I wouldn't worry about when you go on vacation your dd might adjust better to sleeping off the floor than you think. When we co-slept it was on a regular mattress with a boxspring and we survived. If you want to have something for the new baby to sleep in then get it. It is much different having 2 kids than 1. Don't worry about "rules" of ap just do what works for your family. I think that is a much bigger part of being ap than saying that you have to co-sleep.
