I have a 3 year old little boy who I think may be showing signs of Autism. This will be long so I am sorry, he has been a sickly thing since he was a baby. Has had tubes in twice , adenoids out TWICE, tonsils out, has asthma and has had a ton of illnesses along with 1 febrile seizure. He has a speech delay and everyone assumed it was due to his health and the surgeries, well he doesn't sleep and that sent us to a sleep specialist. He sleeps 2-4 hours per night (some nights not at all) he naps 1-2 hours per day when he does actually nap, and at night he rolls his head and body back and forth violently for hours, he also laughs hysterically at night and can't seem to control it. The sleep Dr said he has sleep related rhythmic movement disorder and she thinks he's hallucinating and to come back in a year, also told us to watch for mental disorders! I was obviously not happy with her.... that lead me back to his Ped and I brought a list of his behavior I worry about, he spends almost the entire day in my room alone, he rarely plays with his sibling (one is his own twin) he constantly pulls his ears, rocks side to side while sitting/standing, bothered by loud noises, makes eye contact initially then focuses on your mouth, when he does have tantrums they are BAD, he is extremely attached to me, I can't go to the bathroom without a complete breakdown, his delayed speech which was going well in therapy until they said he was doing good and released him, now we are back to not understanding most of what he says, I know there is more but I can't think right now. His Dr is sending us to a child neurologist at the university of Michigan and he we also have another sleep study done there. I don't know what to think anymore, no one has any answers and I am not sure what to do for him. Our appointment is over a month away still and everyday gets harder. Would you think Autism? thanks in advance for any advise!
