The girls are right, you can't spot reduce. (darn) You have to have a caloric deficit to lose weight, and exercise will help burn fat and built muscle which will give your body a better shape.

Also, don't expect your hips to ever be as small as they were before you had your first child. Pregnancy and birth change your body in ways that are permanent. So just because you were petite before, doesn't mean you might not be a "pear" now.
