It's SO hard for the non-primary care taker to understand sometimes. My son is almost 3.5, but talks at the level of a 2.5yo, and dh hardly understands half of what he says. It frustrates all of us. Is there any possibility of private therapy? I know it is $$, but sometimes it is worth it to help our kids, kwim? But the biggest thing is just... time. Phonics is a big part of it, I think, because from what I've seen a lot of ST is working on phonics type stuff (just not reading it-- just saying it), and obviously you can't snap your fingers and make him talk "properly" It'll take time, but it will come.
