The only birthing center in the area for a LONG ways just sent out this email:

I am sad to report that due to some recent impressive financial events, it seems
that the Birth Center will have to close very shortly. Many of you are aware
that I have a Medicaid provider, but may not be aware that Medicaid does not pay
the Birth Center at all if the client is transported to the hospital for the
birth. Since August, we have transported six clients to the hospital for
medical reasons to complete their births, for a total loss of just over $12,500
in income. This month, I also disovered a heart defect in a 30 week baby that
will require delivery in Atlanta because there are no facilities in Florida for
the open heart surgery that is required to save this baby's life at birth. All
good medical decisions - but financially we are hurting. For a new business,
just over two years old, this amount of loss in such a short time period is
devastating. Unless there is some angel who appears to offset this loss, we will
have to close, and quickly.
I am appealing to all of you who have had contact with us to brainstorm, and see
if there is any way you can help keep this valuable service to the Gulf Coast
community open. Any ideas will be entertained.

If anyone has any ideas, please share them with me.

Thanks, and feel free to pass the word along and if you need my email address, let me know. People can contact me if they know of any ideas to help & I can pass the info along
