I immediately think of "per diem" and "carpe diem". Latin words generally don't make good English names.

Of course there's also Ngo Dinh Diem, who was the first president of South Vietnam; Diem in that case is a male name and (obviously) a Vietnamese one. If your little girl doesn't have any Vietnamese heritage I think it might be a little odd to use. Maybe for a little boy, but I'd still assume he was (at least partly) Vietnamese.

I think for an American girl something like Demi, Deanna, etc would be better.
