Lupus and memory
Can lupus affect your memory?
I've always had a near photographic memory but lately have been having some trouble with words. Such as the other day my husband asked where something was and I replied"Right over there, on the stereo" he looked at me funny as we dont have a stereo, and havent in years, and I almsot snapped the stereo, the thing with the fish in it before realising thats an aquarium, not a stereo.
Usually its just a word I know but cant think of. I did have some trouble with words after a head injury about 7 years ago though, dont know if that could have flared back up, or if this has naything to do with lupus and headaches.
Any help appreciated its quite embarrassing.

Re: Lupus and memory
Hi! I was diagnosed with CREST scleroderma, not lupus, so I don't know specifically, but I've had a brain fog for literally years. I don't know how much if it is due to fatigue (which would be the case with any auto-immune disease), or how much is due to having been pregnant (I found the preggo-brain didn't seem to go away for me). But I can totally relate to having word-retrieval problems, and once calling something the wrong thing! I'm always searching frantically in my brain for words that should be very simple and straightforward. I have no idea if there's anything that can be done, though, to help. But you're not alone!

Re: Lupus and memory
thanks for the reply. It isnt always but comes and goes and may be related to fatigue, which is pretty normal with 2 young children and severe anemia, even without auto immune disease I imagine. the only part of my memory that really seems affected is words and sometimes spelling, but not always. I am really good at scrabble actually, but dont play when foggy, but the word thing is quite frustrating, i know exactly what I mean, i can visualise the thing in my head, I just cant remember what its called.
Well at least i can take some comfort in that others have had it too, I'm just glad it isnt early alzheimers!
