family tree
I found some interesting names on my grandfather's family tree that goes back to 1600s Virginia colony (now North Carolina).

Christopher Columbus (nn Lum)
Kedar and Cader (I assume pronounced the same!)
Plus many Owens and Johns

Plus many Marys and unnamed girl children and wives

Has anyone else looked for names in an old family tree? :)

Re: family tree
Interesting list, Rexford is kind of cool :p

I've gone through my family tree, a lot of ethnic names like Heinrich.

Re: family tree
I never really thought to go back very far. It was important to incorperate family names of people we know and loved. but I'm at least going to go take a look for interest sake to see if there are any good ideas in there!

Re: family tree
I am a total sucker for using family names. My son was named after my grandfather, who I was very close to and respected so much. So, it's a proud name that he will carry through his life. I'm pregnant with another boy, and I can't really come up with any old family names that I like, but I really want to try. His middle name will be John, after my great-grandfather. I LOVE looking back and seeing the names of those who I'm related to!

Re: family tree
I ADORE family names...which is why I use them as middle names for my kids! DD's middle name is after my mom and DS's middle name is after DF's grandpa.

Some interesting names I've found in my family tree:
Ola Mae
Margaret Elizabeth
Tinsey (pronounce tyne-see) Pearl
Rita Jane
Dimple Dayle

Clois (pronounced cloyce)
Glenn Hal
Wilson Douglas

Re: family tree
Annika was on ours. I really wanted to use it up until I got pregnant with DD it slipped my mind. I guess it wasn't meant to be. We did use my Grandmother's mn as her mn though, Elaine.

Re: family tree
Yes, I love using family names. It just gives more depth to the name for me, so each of my kids have a family name somewhere in their names and always will.

Gabriel's middle name is James which is a family name on both sides. James is my FIL's full name and it is my grandmother's maiden name (which is why it also became my brother's middle name).

This baby will be named Roman. The Ro- portion of the name comes from both sides of our family as well. My great grandmother's maiden name was Roe and DH's grandfather's first name is Ronell (pronounced Roe-nell). My mom is already referring to him by "Roe"

If we ever have a girl her name will be Charlotte which is a combination of family name on my dad's side. Charlotte is the feminine version of the name Charles which is my father's full first name and all of my uncle's first names. Charles was also the full first name of my brother who passed away. And a NN for Charlotte is Lottie which was my great grandmother's first name. It's very special to me so I hope I get to use it one day.
