The sign for "more"
How does your child make the sign for more? I think that this is the sign that I see the most variations of when it comes to kids doing it.

I've also seen adults do it a lot of different ways. If your child isn't signing the word yet, but you've introduced it, how do you sign it?

Re: The sign for "more"
I sign it by putting my fingertips together. Jonah signs it by putting his knuckles together. It kind of looks like he's clapping with his fists LOL Some people actually think he's playing pat-a-cake if they dont know he signs

Re: The sign for "more"
 sebastian hasn't signed it yet but when i thought he did sign it he clapped. For me it was confusing but i am being consistent with the asl version and i put his hands together to do it that way.

Re: The sign for "more"
yeah, Jonah confused it with clapping at first too, and it was really confusing for me. I didn't know if he wanted more or if he was just excited. It didnt last too long like that though. I was consistent, and it clicked with him after about a week of the clapping confusion.

Now we're having confusion with "change" during diaper change. He does the sign for "more" for that now too! I can see his confusion. I'm just trying to be consistent with it and hoping it will click as well

I sign it with fingertips together, but Caoimhe signs it with one fist touching her open hand. She signs Hurt the same way, so it's lucky that she says the words along with the sign now.

Re: The sign for "more"
I tried it with the the knuckles knocking together and he did it first try!!! However now i think he is going to get confused with shoes because they are so similiar so i am going to continue with the fingertips together for now unless i can come up with something else.

Re: The sign for "more"
yes, shoes would also be another one to get confused with. It's hard if you want to stick with ASL because there are so many signs that are similar, and the child might adapt them the same way. I think though that it is easier for caregivers to tell what they are saying, even if it is something they say in the same way. Just like parents can usually tell what their kids are saying verbally even when no one else can

I think fingertips together is the most common way, at least on this board  I've seen a lot of people do an index finger to an open palm, but I think in ASL that is actually medicine or something like that, so I didn't want to do it that way.
