Yes, the rules are very strict when it comes to that. You have to be EBF, no pacifiers, bottles or any other type of supplement. It also helps if you have charted and used NFP or a similiar method in the past, and know the signs of when you'll ovulate. Otherwise, I wouldn't reccomend using it to prevent getting pregnant again. I'm not a big fan of hormonal birth control, but even more-so when breastfeeding, because so many women have problems with it, especially when given the wrong type. Condoms are a safe bet though, and won't harm your supply. Remember that you usually ovulate before getting your period (not always with your first PP period, but you should count on it just in case) so don't rely on that to let you know that you're fertile again. It's not unusual for women to get pregnant again before they get that first period back.

If you havent introduced artificial nipples or pacifiers yet, you may want to look into the lactation awareness method of BC.

My SIL got pregnant when she was 3 months PP and BFing, although I know she did have some issues with supply and supplemented some, so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

I read on a website awhile all the points mentioned as well as co sleeping so the baby can nurse/pacify at their leisure to ensure infertility. Dont know how accurate that would be, and dont remember what site I read that on.

Personally Im not taking any chances because I was told by a specialist I was infertile and would need fertility drugs to maybe get pregnant, and well I got pregnant four days later.

I know women that got preggo less than a year while bfing, but they were also pacifier babies.

Your chances of pregnancy are less than 2% while breastfeeding, but only when certain conditions are met. You can read more about it here:

If you meet the conditions, enjoy your BFing infertility while it lasts!
