I've had to get Medicaid b/c my insurance didn't have maternity and of course I can't add it after the fact. Anyway, it was a quick process and I'm already accepted. I was talking to my aunt yesterday, though and she told me to be careful about putting Wade's name on the birth certificate b/c the government will go after him and garnish his wages for any expenses incurred while having the baby. Has anyone heard of this before? I'm not too concerned about it right now b/c Wade isn't working, he's a full time student. By the time they would come after him, he'll have graduated and will have a good job, so we'll be able to pay it back. I'm just curious, though if any of you know anything about this ...

Not true. My son and I were on medicaid while I was pregnant. After the baby is born it is automatically on medicaid as long as the mother is on it. Once your year is up (so Feb. '06) they will review everything again and see if you are approved. He's the father. He should be on the birth certificate.

its not true I dont think in any state. My friend had medicad and had 2 kids and her boyfriends name is on it

now on the other hand if you and the babys dad are not together and he has to pay child support and you are owned back child support and the state steps in to resolve it for you then the father can be held for medical expances that the child incures but they wont go garnish his wages they will wait untill he pays the back child support and take it out of there. And its not medical expences that you incure
I know it happend to my mom

I am on Medicaid right now and thats not true. My medicaid covers the baby for a year after birth and me 2 months after birth. The only reson they would go after him is for child support and thats if y'all were not togther. Hope that helps!

I was seperated from my hubby during the time of my sons birth and on medicaid. Medicaid covered it all and never asked for anything extra from anyone.

Jewelry for yourself, or for a friend. Breastfeeding aides, beautiful bracelets, earings and more.

i think it just depends on the state. my friends baby's daddy had to pay birth expenses added to his child support. he and the mom were not togethere and the state had to step in and establish paternity and then set up child support. i would put daddy on the birth cert. it could cause problems later down the road if you do not.

I think the rule is if you seek help from the state to get child support they will attempt to collect the costs of birth as part of the child support case... at least that's what happened with my ex-husband with one of his other children
