I'm not sure if I am posting in the correct area, but I was curious...

Have any of you gotten pregnant after your DH had a vasectomy? Just wondering what my odds are...?

Vasectomies do not provide 100% protection from pregnancy. The failure rate is very similar to tubal ligation (having your tubes tied) which is about 2%. Current statistics (study done in 2004) show that 1 in 100 vasectomies fail within a 5 year period. It's very important to use condoms and/or a back up form of birth control until the man's semen analysis comes back clear of sperm. This can take 3 months to 1 year. There have also been many cases where the vas deferens grew back together or the man had extra.

Birth control methods like vasectomy do not guarantee 100% safety from pregnancy. It is always best to have a back up contraception before further test is made.
