i had my third u/s today and we finally saw a healthy heartbeat and a baby! it turns out i got pregnant when i should have got my period (same with dd). due to my high risk status and history of sch i asked my np to order a complete clotting disorder assay last week at my first ob appointment. i had read a bunch of credible articles about the correlation of certain clotting disorders with subchorionic hemorrhage.

anyways, after my us the tech went to check with the nurse to see if there was anything i needed to do prior to my next ob appointment. she walks back into the room with a blood draw order form because the doctor wanted me to be tested for lupus! i was taken aback because i would have thought the doctor would have called me in for an appointment to discuss the results. i didn't see the results of my test but from research i am assuming my ana came back abnormal for them to order a lupus panel on me. lupus does run in the family and it scares me because i watched my aunt die of lupus complications. i have to wait til the 23rd til i know the results and i am sorry, that is not soon enough.

i was just wondering if anyone has lupus and is pregnant or just any information on this. i feel like i was blindsided by the doctor about this and i think i deserved more than jut the u/s tech breaking the news that my blood test was abnormal without more details.

First of all congrats on your pregnancy!

Secondly, are you sure they aren't testing you for lupus anticoagulant? This is different than systematic lupus. The first one I mentioned is just a blood clotting disorder. I have it and a couple others so I just have to take blood thinners when I am pregnant. It is a fairly common blood clotting disorder, so my guess is your dr was adding this one to the list. I was confused at first too when they told me I had lupus...then I found out there are two very different forms of lupus though.
Thank you Mistyx5 for my siggy.

they tested me for the lupus anticoagulant, igA, igB, and anti smith antibody along with the antiDNA antibody. so the u/s tech told me it was to rule out lupus. and my research last night told me that all the above tests are common to diagnose systemic lupus. this is after they tested me for ana and apa disorders last week.

Welcome to the high risk board. I am sorry I don't know much about lupus.
