At 8 wks, my doctor told me that my progesterone levels were low (7.3 - and they want it to be over 20). She put me on a progesterone supplement and said that it would sustain my levels until my 12th week, when the placenta started to take over production of the hormone. Other than the low levels, I haven't had many problems, maybe a day here and there of spotting - but no major pains, and this is my first pregnancy, which makes me worry probably way more than necessary.

I am okay with the treatment, except that I am having a hard time finding information about whether or not there is going to be any problem for the placenta to make enough progesterone. I am worried that because my body does not necessarily produce enought, that maybe the placenta won't either. I am under the impression that once the placenta takes over this job, I will have less to worry about, but I can't find any info that spells it out very clear.

Has anyone else had this problem with low progesterone levels?

I haven't had any problems, but I still wanted to wish you luck with all.
