I spent the past few weeks in contact with my sisters cardiologist to get information on the risks of this baby getting the heart problems my sister has.

So, since I have never shown any signs of LQTS the risk is about 25% or less and seeing as my 1st has also shown no signs of it, i may not ever be a carrier.

As for the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, I've never been tested because we just found out about it, so we're not going to know the risks till we find out if either me or my son has any indications of it.

I also spoke to my sister's neurologist about spina bifida and he says he doesn't think I need to worry too much but I should still be cautious and get the genetics done.

Now my only other main concern is prematurity since my son was 6 weeks early.

I don't know anything about genetic things. I am worried about having preterm labor as well. I went into preterm labor with Angie at 34 weeks and had her at 36 weeks and then with Brandon my placenta abrupted at 33 weeks and I ended up having an emergency csection.

I have a shorten cervix and I to have been worried about my baby being born early..

My doctor however has given me some reassuring facts (about my pregnancy not sure if this is advice for all)

He told me, after the 28 week point the risk factor decreases with 85% survival rate and offically 32 weeks the baby can be delivered without risk factors (My cousins daughter was born a month prematrue, perfectly healthy)

My son was born at 34 weeks, and had no problems whatsoever. He came home with me the next day, but I've been told it's not uncommon to have 2nd babies born earlier than 1sts, and I think that is what is scaring me the most. And my OB has been really reassuring because, as she reminded me, I was 17 when my son was born, which put me at a higher risk for a preemie to begin with. And He was born over 6 lbs which tells her I would have had a big baby had I gone full term.

my ds was born at 36.5 weeks after I spent almost 3 mos in the hospital in pre-term labor. So now I have an incomp. cervix and I am still at risk for IC. So I am too at fear of pre-term again

It's really nice to know I'm not the only one afraid of having my baby too early. I tried to talk to my mom about it and she (as always) just said "Your older now, your baby will probably be late." I was so lucky my son was as healthy as he was but they think the stress of the last month may have helped his lungs develop quicker (2 deaths in his fathers family, my sister trying to kill herself, etc...).

I'm going to talk to my doctor about my concerns Tuesday when i see her.
