Well, looks like Ill be holed up with all the bed rest queens for a bit. I was just discharged from L&D after spending a lovely evening in their lucious accomodations. I had been cramping since about 5:30- much like menstrual cramps on steroids. I called my OB, who told me it was nothing and to lay on my left side and push fluids. I did that until 6:30 when the pain got worse, and moved to my back. I was also having the balling up feelings and was contracting fairly regularly. I called the OB back, and she pre-registered me to L&D and had me come in.

Sure enough, I was having insanely strong contractions about every 3 minutes that would last about 30-45 seconds. They hooked me up to all sorts of monitors- baby looked fine, her HB was between 150-170 the whole time (lower on contraction, which I guess is normal?), my BP was good, Im running a low grade temp (99.6), and my heart rate was fine too. The Dr checked my cervix and it was unchanged, which I was grateful of. They did a clean catch urine which came back negative for everything, but I was still having contractions at 10pm so they started the Terbutaline. I got 4 shots of it over the course of an hour, and they finally got the labor stopped. They rechecked my cervix and it still looked good, no major changes. I was discharged at 3:30am. They are not sure what caused the PTL, but advised me I am now at VERY high risk for continued PTL episodes and early delivery. I am to follow up with my OB in the morning for full orders, but for now I am on complete bed rest (with toilet privs) until further notice.

This stinks...

why did they not keep you over night to be 100% certain the ctx had stopped.

I am glad they where able to stop the contractions. You are only half way there.

The ctx had been stopped for about 5 hours when they sent me home, and since I had no cervical changes at all- they felt it was safe. I was ordered to come RIGHT back if I even felt a twinge though. They also didnt have anywhere to put me (I was in a triage room the whole time I was there). They had 5 emergency sections going on, a patient that crashed during delivery and they had to resucitate, a woman on her way home to NJ from visiting family come in crowning, and a line of scheduled inductions and sections, plus all the regular labors going on. There were preggers all over the place and no beds... And whats really bad is this is the largest maternal/child center in the County (there are 3 others too) and within about 50 miles!

Sending prayers your way. I think that after 36d in the hospital plus 28d at home flat, I have reached my breaking point.
