Well, Tristan was like that and we didn't get out of it. We used to sleep in the bed and one of us would sleep with him on our chest. Gavin lets us put him down, so I have not ran into this yet with him. Good Luck.

elyse was pretty clingy as a baby....not so much when she was sleeping but when she was AWAKE!!!! lol she always wanted to be held haha...have you tried a baby wrap??? so you can just carry him around but still have your arms free to do things? other than that....just keep laying him down for a a bit when you need to....it wont hurt him and he will get used to it eventually....

i was always afraid to co-sleep.....one our bed is only a full...so it barely fits me and dh in it...i could never sleep when they were in our bed out of fear i would roll over them or they'd fall off the bed somehow or get smothered by the blankets or pillows LOL

Kayley was like that when she was little and we did the co-sleeping thing (we had a scary episode in the crib that made me make that decision). Anywhoo.....now she is 5 and I lay with her until she falls asleep (she has a full size bed). Then I sneak out and go on with my night. I try to go to sleep in my bedroom. Once I am asleep she comes into my room. We go back in her room......so back and forth a couple times. I give up, lol and when morning comes I realize I'm in her room. I've actually been thinking when spring break rolls around I may try to get her to at least stay in bed. I don't mind laying with her until she falls asleep and very rarely she'll stay in bed so I know she can do it. Also, she is an only child. We may give her a sibling in the near future and her sleeping situation does worry me for when that time comes. I guess it will work itself out.

Ditto the baby carrier. I have a moby and harry hates it, but alot of babies love them!

Have you tried doing those things while he is awake? I dont do diddly squat while harry is asleep. He only sleeps about 20-40 mins about 3 times a day, nap time is my break time!
I do the housework while harry is awake. he has a bouncy chair and he LOVES to watch me work. I bring him to the kitchen while we do dishes. if he is a bit cranky or a bit bored, i turn on the washing machine and he will watch the clothes spinning around for ages!
if i'm doing laundry, we sing songs while i fold or whatever. When he gets bored i'll stop, but i can usually get a good bit done and he still feels like he has my attention.

I am a believer in teaching the children that life does go on, and chores have to be done. Obviously if they arent happy watching I dont just leave them there, but more often than not, jake will join in and help, or sit and play while we chat, or harry will coo and gurgle at his hands and we sing along to the radio or whatever. In my experience, with my boys anyway! they love being included in life. they dont need constant one on one attention, the whole world is fascinating to them, and watching you do the dishes is actually interesting!

I dont wanna waste precious nap times cleaning! Every other job gets a lunch break, toilet break etc, i deserve one too!

The whole 40 minute nap is totally normal. Babies have very short sleep cycles and they don't lengthen until 6+ months. It is very normal for a baby under 6 months to only take a number of short naps every day. Avery is almost 7 months and still does the whole short nap routine. I nurse her to sleep laying down, creep away, and when she wakes I try to nurse her to sleep again. Sometimes she will sleep for another hour, probably one nap per day. That would be my advice- if you don't already nurse laying down, take a day or two and just work work work on it until you get really good at it.

Avery went through a phase as well where she had to be held to sleep. It will pass mama! Just keep doing what you are doing and try not to stress- do what feels right! This too shall pass.

So glad he slept for 10 hours! Pity it wasn't in his own bed! He will get there eventually!
Your poor little neck!
