my favorite part!

Quote:
“Does your husband give you an allowance from his paycheck?”
Unless a stay-at-home mom views herself as a salaried employee of her husband’s (unlikely!), this comment isn’t going to go over well. And it’s common for the woman to be in charge of the budget and bank account, whether or not she’s contributing funds. “We’ve always had a joint checking account, even when we first lived together,” says stay-at-home mom Rachel of Albany, NY. “Now, I pay all the bills, do all the grocery shopping and decide when the big purchases can be made. If anything, he asks me for money!” Of course, not all relationships work that way; when it comes time for a couple to negotiate how money is spent, some non-working women feel they’ve sacrificed some of their decision-making clout. “Lack of financial independence can be scary, especially for a woman who worked hard to be financially independent in the first place,” says Steiner. Either way, it’s wise not to pry unless you’re a good enough friend to broach such a touchy topic.

I think if Karl suggested I get an "allowance" he'd be in the hospital LMAO...but the sad thing is I know some women who stay home who DO get an allowance...they no nothing about the money what comes in what goes out...how much and when bills get paid etc....makes me sad for them.....because to me that just means their hubs has little to no respect for them.....its like great you can trust your wife with the kids but not the bills??? sheesh!!

Oh my gosh! Great stuff...people can be so rude sometimes! Being a SAHM is the hardest job I've ever had...but I wouldn't trade it for a thing.

Kristy, me too. If Dave was ever like "Here is your allowance" I would be like "Whaaaaaa...ok...you can sleep outside...."

Love it!! People have so many ideas about what it is like to stay home! Even my hubby has been an idiot at times and not realized how much work I really do. Even if I take a break to watch a show while the little one is napping, I am still working most of the day. I wake up by 7am. I make breakfast for 4 kids, pack lunches for 3, and tend to a 1 year old while making sure three older kids get ready for school. Then the older 3 go to school. When they get home around 3:30 I don't get a break! Plus while they are gone I take care of my house and a 1 year old....which you all know is not easy!

All night after the older ones get home is homework, dinner, activities, family time, etc. So I usually don't get to relax till 10pm when the older two go to bed!! I don't know many jobs that go from 7am-10pm with only an hour or two break!

So glad you all understand what staying home is like!!

Some people are rude.

And I agree I would laugh at dh if he said here is your allowance...bhahaha. I pay all the bills here and we make big decisions together. I do have a friend that gets an allowance, I think it's because of her over spending habits though...lol

I love this, it is so true.
Some of my friends are.still in college or just graduated. Hardly any of them are married or have kids so i often get the "oh ok" responce to being a stay home mom. My other one is "you started so young, dont you feel like your sacrificing your childhood?" Yes because spending all day in class/work and then going out drinking and waking up with a hangover sounds so much better than staying home and raising a family. People just dont get it.
