I tried using those pellet things you spread around the beds but I don't know if they actually work well. I have them everywhere too and have resorted to picking and flicking!

if your kids are okay with picking them and squishing them...i'd go that route. my kids love to catch crickets and feed them to the chickens...but i also say something like..."if you catch 5 crickets, then you get a popcicle." works everytime.

I know this will sound strange but if you are going to pick and squash I know slugs do not like salt. Blame it on my brother when we were kids.

Do you have any beer? Place a saucer (like a plant saucer) or pie pan of beer into the ground so the lip or rim is at ground level. Empty in the morning.

I've been told beer as well attracts them. Also, you can spread broken eggshells around the base of your plants - I've been told it keeps them away.
