We did another food diary with the nutritionist and Danny has gone in about 5 months from eating 1500-1800 calories a day to eating 950-1300 a day...how does he drop so many calories like that!?!?!? He needs 1350 appx. to gain weight so that probably explains the not gaining...I am just really irritated because I can't force him to eat! We add canola oil to his Neocate Jr which is already mixed for 30 cal/oz. He gets 6 small/med meals a day and I just don't know what else I can do! I can't force the child to eat! I don't want him to have to get a feeding tube!!! Is there a way that they can do an NG feeding tube just to get the calories in to see if he would gain weight if he got enough calories? I don't want to just keep wondering is there something else going on or is it just that he won't eat enough? He has these little brown stripes that go from the root of his fingernail to the tip and some of them will have a layer or two of his nail peel off along that line. It is odd but none of his doctors seem to think it is significant. I just don't know what to do anymore. What if he just doesn't get enough calories so he willl gain weight when he eats more. But what if there is something else that is keeping him from growing? He is in the 70% for height and 4% for weight which puts him off the charts for height to weight ratio...THAT is what worries me. If was short and small that would be fine or even if he gained on his own curve and stayed off the charts for all I care....just on a curve!! Not up and down and then plummet and creep back up only to fall again. What else can I do or does anyone have any suggestions to get more calories in a 2 year old that can't eat eggs, milk, soy, tomatoes, or carrots? Anything you can think of no matter how dumb you think it might sound...throw it out there please!!!

Sorry for the rant I really just don't know what to think anymore...

Thanks .:Shortcake:. for my GREAT siggy.

I'm sorry hun! I wish I had more advice for you, but I'm not much help. *hugs* I really hope he starts putting on some weight and eating more! I know Jonah has slowed down in the eating department as well and we have not had weight gain in about 3 months.

He has the appt with the GI for the Bone Age results on 08/18 with a weight check and then the allergist for a weight check and hopefully a patch test for milk, egg and carrot to see if he can start them again....

Thanks .:Shortcake:. for my GREAT siggy.

An NG tube would definitely get the food into him. However, expect his oral intake to decrease because he'll be less hungry. It's a double edged sword. In my daughter's case it has been a life saver, but I'm beginning to wonder if she'll ever be able to eat without a feeding tube. Also toddlers and NG tubes don't get along. Kiersten's never stayed in for longer than a day. It's very traumatic to have a feeding tube stuck through their nose and into their throat on a daily basis. That being said, if he's not able to meet his caloric needs, and you've tried everything else, you may want to consider it if his weight continues to drop.
Believe me, I understand your frustration.
