Hi ladies,

I need help with my 5.5yr old! he is gets up in the middle of the night and eats whatever he can get into...and i mean anything..one night he hate 3/4 bucket of ice cream, 3 peices of pizza, cereal and milk, 3 apples, choc sauce, yogurt and grapes... the next night, chicken from the garbage, the next night 4poptarts, 3 choc puddings, 2 applesauces, grated some cheese, 2 peices of pizza, dry cereal.
Now this happens EVERY night. i dont know why...he eats a TON at each meal...so much so that we have had to put a limit on what he can eat because he will eat until he pukes and continue eating.
he also chews on everything, and eats strings and tags from blankets, pillows, mattresses .

I am at the end of my rope. We are getting an alarm for his door on payday, but i dnt think that will stop him.

My daughter went through this phase and you might not have this option, but we padlocked the fridge and freezer and then bought a pantry and padlocked that. My father was our landlord at the time and allowed us to put a lock on the appliance. It helps. We still use the padlocked pantry and keep food our daughter will get into in there. The other pantry (built in cupboard) we keep can goods, noodles and flour, sugar etc in. Stuff she won't get into. The cereal, chips and what not stay locked up at night. We call it scavenging. We also have a basement and as a precaution, any ice cream, chocolate or whatever we have in the house goes into the deep freezer down there. She doesn't like the basement so she won't go down there. If I am going to give her ice cream or whatever that day, I go and get it when she isn't around and keep it in the freezer up here until after she goes to bed and then put it back downstairs. yes, I trick her. As for eating from the garbage, I guess you'll just have to take the trash out before going to bed.

I know you live rurally and might not have a lot of shopping options but we got temporary alarms at the dollar store.

ETA: I already told you our solution Good luck

and I am sorry this is still an issue. It is very common in kids who have had a rought start in life. They just can't believe the bounty is going to last.
