Our speecher (SLP LOL) ws here a few days ago and she said she did not believe he had austim, and neither does the developmentalist (a psychologist who has worked for many years with the autism center) they said that yes he has a significiant speech/language/communication deficit and he has some sensory issues BUT his pretend play is so complex and developed----much more so than it shouldbe for 2 or even 3----and he is very social and has a definite understanding that he NEEDS to communicate and tries his best to do so and they said those just aren't characteristics of autism. Yes he has his quirks, but he is so social and WANTS to be with other people, wants to play, and wants to communicate---he just can't. BUt he has improved so much that even that deficit that was severe in Oct is nearly an acceptable range of delay and he may not even qualify for on going services after he turns 3....special needs pre-school is outta the picture now too. They have all said, all his therapists I mean, have said they've never seen a kid make THIs much progress before. they say he is a different kid. Last year he only siad the sounds for babababababba and dadadadadadada and that was it! And all he did was spin the wheels on his cars, pace, spin, open and close doors, or shake his head....ALL DAY LONG. Imean HOURS of opening and closing the same door, spinning wheels, no one relly can understand how bad he was compared to now. Now he is a little boy...full of spirit and spunk and energy and PLAYING....not just stimming but actually playing with purpose! I kind of joke and tell people that my son went to the autism window, but he didn't like the view so he left. And really, that's the best way of describing him! It was like something snapped in him back in july...he had a horrible episode in late june/ early july then after that he's been a totally different kid!

Thanks to Maitri for my wonderful siggy!

That is great! From what you've told us before, here and in the PR, I didn't thnk his label was correct.
Jump into Spring! BPAFreeKids.com wishes you good times and warmer weather!

I am a breastfeeding, cloth diapering, co-sleeping, no crying it out, baby wearing mama of 3 boys, one of which has autism. Meet my boys here (having technical difficulties with my website). My blogs are On Top of Mt. Laundry and The Cache Checkers.

Most frequently found at the Cloth Diapering board but also a member of the July '05 PR, Austim board and the Choosing Not To Vaccinate board.
