Preschool generally starts as early as 3, which a child in most states, has to be by sept 1st. And than pre-k is 4, K is 5 and 1st grade at 6... hope this helps

I enrolled my 3 yrd old in a 2 day a week preschool program this year. He starts Sept. 5th. You should check out some of the preschools nearby your house for programs and go and visit. We called the school district and asked for recommendations then visited the ones they listed.

My son started at 3 1/2 in public preschool. I would have started him @ 3, but we were going to move in a couple of months, so we held off.

I think it depends on where you live. I used to live in the west, and no one really sent their kids to preschool until the year before kindergarten. Now, I live on the east coast, and everyone is camping out at preschools to get their 2 year old into the right one. I would ask around your neighborhood and city to see what others would do. That way, your child can be on track with the kids they will be in elementary school with.

I live on the west coast and my son, at almost 4, was one of the older ones in his class. There were a lot that were 2 1/2 soon to turn 3, and recently turned 3 year olds. I have found that nowadays in general people tend to be doing 2 years of preschool rather than one. When we were in the south, it was the same thing.

3 or 4 yrs is a good age, but it depends on your area. I did homeschool preschool with my son Devon(for 1 year) and he started kindy already knowing beyond 2nd grade, and he was bored. I just moved all my kids to a better school district. Hopefully they will challenge him(they have programs for advanced students).

Where I live there is a 3 year old class and a 4 year old class. It's not actually ran through the school district though... so a lot of money comes out of my pocket.. kinda like daycare! Anways... I know a lot of mothers around here that don't even put their kids in school until Kindergarden.. which I think is ok too if you can work with your child at home and get them into other activities with other children. Unfortunatly since it's not part of the actual school.. many families can't afford preschool here.

Here, they can start pre-school at 2.9, which my daughter just turned.
