How old is normal for boys to be able to stay dry overnight?
DS has been potty trained (daytime hours) since he turned 3.
He's almost 4 and still needs a pull-up at night.

I tried a trial without pull ups at night for 2 months but it was just inconsistent -some nights he'd stay dry, then he'd wet the bed 2 weeks in a row.
After a couple months of that I couldnt keep up with washing the bedding so often.
I wonder when we should give it another go?

And apart from the obvious of not having anything to drink in evening hours leading up to bedtime, is there any thing that youve found helps little ones stay dry overnight?
I'm kind of at a loss becuase for DD she pretty much stayed dry at night as soon as she learned to stay dry during the day so I'm feeling at a loss this time around.

Hi Eowyn!

I can relate. With my older son the dry nights came right along with the dry days. My 4 year old was a whole different story. He was potty trained for almost 6 months but still wearing pull-ups to bed. We experimented with a ton of different stuff... rewards, limiting liquids at night and trials without pull-ups that always ended in messes. Finally I started waking up twice per night and getting him out of bed and into the habbit of waking up and peeing at night. After 7-10 days I cut it down to once per night. Then one morning I was up early at 5:00am taking a shower and I heard someone come into the bathroom and start using the potty. I stuck my head out of the shower expecting to see my 7 year old but it was my little guy! He has had 1 or 2 accidents since then but overall he is out of his pull-ups and making it through the nights.
